Leap of They-Got-No-Faith – Assassin’s Creed Review

No, I’ve never ever played the game. Judging by the movie, I’m never going to want to.

Assassin’s Creed is a tale of past and future. Where two groups – Templars and Assassins are on a harrowing quest to find the Apple of Eden. Whoever possesses the apple, posses the source code. The power of free will! Or at least, they can modify the code and remove it forever. Or something to that extent. I didn’t look at it too closely.

On paper, this could be a novel idea to depict on screen. The marriage of past and future worlds with technology to link them together has obviously warranted sequels in the gaming industry. But the movie? It didn’t sell itself properly. Neither did I buy it. Apart from the movie ticket I had to pay for, obviously.

So many problems plague the movie. The premise, while sounding fantastic, wasn’t realised and executed well. The storyline could be a lot better. The performances – didn’t buy it at all. Everyone is wasted spewing uninspired dialogue. And the action – just to put simply, uninspired. Lack of motivation is what really kills this movie. Sounds, looks and feels like a generic project put on screen to milk an already established franchise.

It’s just that.

Rating : Stars suit the night sky, not here.
